Feet Speak | Bashir Al Mahayni

“Dance is about the body's connection with the ground, which determines its relationship to gravity and weight. Our feet are the first body part that connects us to the ground, which absorbs the information and knowledge of the possibilities for movement. The ground has texture, density, and resistance, which determines the relationship the movement has with that place, its dynamic, its emotions as well as its velocity.

Feet Speak explores the sound of movement within different grounds, using the feet as the instrument. My intention in this project was to discover how the site influences the movement of the body. How sound can influence the way we move, feel, and embody a specific
space. How does sound affect a space? How do our feet speak when we make contact with the ground? How do we imagine the movement of the dance when the visual aspect is removed?”

The real power of site-specific work is that it somehow activates, or engages with, the narratives of the site in some kind of way. (Pearson)
